Visiting Scholar
Karen Lalrindiki Donoghue teaches in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at North Eastern Hill University, Shillong, India. She holds a PhD from the North Eastern Hill University, which is focused on media representation of Northeast India in mainstream Indian media, and her research interests include Media Representation, Media and Culture and Oral History. She is currently a member of the executive committee of the Oral History Association of India.
Donoghue co-led an Oral History project titled “Stories from the Valley”, funded by The Sasakawa Peace Foundation Japan through the Northeast India AV Archive as part of their 'Preserving and Sharing Histories and Memories of Northeast India' project. The project explored the community history of the diasporic Mizo population in Shillong, shaped in part by two decades of political instability and insurgency in Mizoram. A book by the same name was also produced. Her present research seeks to document and analyze the experiences, values, and practices of the Mizo diaspora in the United States. Using a qualitative approach centered on oral histories, the study will explore migration patterns, community formation, socio-political integration, and the role of technology and social media in preserving cultural identity.
