Mayu Okawara Muller received her M.A. in Education, Curriculum and Instruction Major from Otterbein University, and B.A. in Liberal Arts, Global Studies in English Major from Hiroshima Jogakuin University. 

Okawara Muller joined the ALLEX program in 2019, and she has experience teaching Japanese courses in Otterbein University, the Ohio State University (SPEAC; Summer Programs in East Asian Concentration), and Oberlin College. She managed and taught Japanese courses in Otterbein University (Department of Modern Languages and Cultures), and introduced the COIL method (virtual exchange program) collaborating with Kansai University.

She has participated in study tours in Cambodia and India, and studied abroad in New Zealand and the United States.
