Visiting Critic

Nicaraguan political cartoonist Pedro X. Molina was an Artist Protection Fund(link is external) fellow in the Einaudi Center’s Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program(link is external) (LACS) until 2022. He continues his engagement with the Einaudi Center as a visiting critic.

In Nicaragua, Molina was a well-known political cartoonist whose work regularly skewered the government of President Daniel Ortega. He fled the country in December 2018, when government forces raided and occupied the offices of his main outlet, Confidencial.

His work was recognized in October 2021 with the 2021 Gabo Award for Excellence(link is external), one of the most prestigious journalism prizes in Latin America. He was awarded the Václav Havel International Prize for Creative Dissent in 2023.
