Lourdes Benería Award

The Lourdes Benería Award for summer field research helps fund students studying gender and planning in Latin America or the Caribbean. It is open to graduate and professional students who can receive funding for in-country research costs, excluding international airfare.

The application deadline is usually at the end of February, and decisions are made by the end of March.

Summer Research Grants

We offer research grants of up to $1,000 to qualified graduate students who need to conduct field research over the summer for in-country research costs, excluding international airfare. If you need a grant for the cost of international airfare to get to the country of your study site from the U.S., please apply for an Einaudi Center travel grant.  

This funding requires a successful petition to Cornell to travel internationally. 

The application deadline is usually at the end of February, and decisions are made by the end of March.

Einaudi Travel Grants

Einaudi travel grants fund airfare costs for graduate students traveling internationally for fieldwork. Up to $2,000 can be covered by a travel grant. These grants can supplement LACS funding like summer research grants or the Lourdes Benería Award. 

The deadline to apply is March. 

Eligibility

Graduate students or students enrolled in Cornell’s professional schools are eligible with the following exceptions:

  • Students who are graduating before they plan to complete summer fieldwork.
  • Students who have not used travel grant awards from the previous year.

Einaudi Dissertation Development Program

Develop your dissertation on global issues with a toolkit of resources. Over the course of the year, you’ll participate in seminars, workshops, and mentoring sessions and receive up to $5,000 for summer research. 

DPD supports 12 PhD students annually. Applicants’ research projects must focus on global issues, but the proposed research setting may be international or domestic. 

Applications are usually due in March.
